Editorial Policy
The standards we hold our calculators and content to. Published in full because transparency is part of accuracy.
1. Accuracy first
Every figure on this site comes from an official publication – HMRC / gov.uk rate tables, the Scottish Government, or equivalent primary sources – never from another website or memory. Our full sourcing is listed on the Methodology page.
2. Verifiable, not just asserted
Calculation logic is published in full, and each calculator is covered by automated test cases. If we say a number is right, you can check how we got there.
3. Updates and corrections
- Rates are reviewed and updated every April for the new tax year.
- Confirmed errors are corrected within 48 hours of being reported.
- Substantive changes to a page update its "Last updated" date.
- Nothing on this site is AI-generated and published unchecked; everything is reviewed against official sources.
4. Independence and advertising
This site is independent and not affiliated with HMRC or any tax firm. It may be monetised with display advertising and, where relevant, affiliate links to software and services we consider genuinely useful.
Affiliate disclosure: if a link on this site is an affiliate link, it will be clearly labelled or covered by this notice – "Some links on this site are affiliate links; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you." Advertising never changes a calculation or a recommendation.
5. What we will not do
- No "tax avoidance" schemes or loophole marketing.
- No paid-for placement disguised as editorial.
- No refund-agent upsells – claiming from HMRC is free, and we will never direct you to paid "refund services".
- No personal data collection. Calculator inputs stay in your browser.
